The City of Greenville has gained some new neighbors in a historic downtown office building.
Trust Services, Inc. of Greenville has moved into the two top floors of the 5-story building at the corner of Lee and Wesley Streets, formerly the Henson-Kickernick Building. City offices now occupy the third floor of the structure.
Trust Services is a local firm specializing in management of asbestos settlement trusts. Trust Services president W. D. Hilton, Jr. said the move to the building gave his company an opportunity to remain in Greenville. Hilton said the move to the Henson Building, most recently the home of Greenville Technical Center, should be a catalyst in the city's ongoing downtown revitalization efforts. "Even more important, this facility has been designed to specifically meet the needs of our business," Hilton said.
The Tabani Group of Dallas manages the property for the Greenville Board of Development. Tabani Group has committed to approximately $1 million in improvements to both the interior and exterior of the building. Built in the early 1920s, the Henson Building qualifies for historical tax credits from the State of Texas.
Board of Development chairman Link Linkenauger praised the City Council, former mayor Sue Ann Harting, and City Manager Ed Thatcher for their perseverance in getting the development project underway. "This is an excellent example of a successful economic development effort by a broad cross-section of our community," Linkenauger said.
Greenville Board of Development offices also occupy the newly renovated building.
.The project has provided a major boost to Downtown, helping to keep 25 jobs in Greenville, as well as providing a catalyst for future historic renovations.
