Downtown Greenville: The Heart and Soul of Hunt County

June 23, 2026

It takes more than just a name on a map for a city to truly feel like a community. It takes heart and soul, and those can be found in Downtown Greenville, TX. The historic center of Hunt County, Downtown Greenville, brings together everything that makes a community special: vibrant gathering spots, local businesses, unique shops, restaurants, art, and exciting local events that reflect the character, creativity, and pride of our area and residents.
“Downtown Greenville is more than a place: it’s the heart and soul of our community, where our history, local businesses, and community spirit come together to create a vibrant destination,” said Chairman Holly Gray. “Continued investment in downtown ensures we preserve that character while building a stronger, more connected future for residents and visitors alike.”
The Greenville Economic Development Corporation (EDC) is dedicated to fostering investment and encouraging business development in Downtown Greenville to help it remain a thriving destination for residents, visitors, and future generations alike.

Proud Participant in Main Street America

Downtown Greenville, TX, has been recognized by the Texas Main Street Program as a Main Street America member since 1999. Since that time, more than $7 million has been reinvested in the downtown area, according to Greenville Friends of Mainstreet. This prestigious designation honors communities that have prioritized historic preservation and downtown revitalization through economic development.

Greenville continues to prioritize Downtown vitality and long-term sustainability year after year through new economic development initiatives, support for new and existing local businesses, and continued planning and partnerships for local events.

Preserving Historic Downtown for the Future

With an eye on the future, Downtown Greenville is committed to also preserving the historic flavor that makes the area special. Preserving historic buildings such as the Landmark Building ensures that future generations can enjoy and appreciate these community gems. Operating in a historic downtown building since 1939, the Greenville Municipal Auditorium (GMA) has been a cornerstone of the community, hosting legendary performers such as Elvis Presley, Duke Ellington, George Strait, Loretta Lynn, and many others. As Greenville continues to grow, the GMA is expanding its programs and entertainment offerings to position the region as a destination while presenting a diverse lineup of concerts, musicals, plays, and community events.
Tourism Manager Stacey Foley describes the downtown vision with Business View Magazine, saying, “We are growing, but we don’t want to lose our small town feel, the sense of hospitality and community connection.” Historic preservation in downtown aims to drive tourism while preserving community identity.

Dining and Shopping for Every Taste

Downtown also provides the perfect walkable shopping experience featuring unique boutiques, art galleries, gift shops, and more.

There’s no need to leave when you work up an appetite. With authentic Mexican restaurants, Cajun Cuisine, Street Tacos, award-winning wines, and more, there is a little bit of something for everyone’s appetite just next door or around the corner.

For a truly unique dining experience, get prepared for 1846, a new restaurant, event center, and speakeasy soon to open on Court Square. R.W. Holleman has big plans for the space, hoping to provide residents with a new upscale eatery without the drive to Dallas. The 1846 project will be a significant investment in Downtown Greenville.
